The icon is steeped in tradition, each iconographer following that which was painted before him, the aim not to capture the natural look of the person or things depicted, but the spiritual essence. This art form rooted in the repetition of familiar images merges with a contemporary twist, re-examining our relationship to the subjects of religious imagery.
