Oct. 27 - Dec. 17, 2005
“Social
Distortions” features the figurative works
of Damon Maxwell, Molly MacGregor, and Jeremy
Mayer. Each artist explores the roles, interplay,
and effects of the self and society upon one another,
and challenges the viewer to experience and question
his/ her own system of values and sense of self.
Damon
Maxwell's mixed media paintings, from
his series “Beyond Code,” deals with
sensitive thematic issues such as self-perception,
religion, and sexuality.
Molly
MacGregor's
silhouette series is intended to demonstrate how
reflections of human nature can warp, much like
a shadow, to fit an ever evolving socio-political
landscape.
Jeremy
Mayer's typewriter sculptures and charcoal self-portraits
flow out of Mayer’s interest in how we can
alter ourselves. “You can change your hair
color, you can get plastic surgery. How far is
that going to go with new technologies?”
Mayer asks. |
