I was born in Portland, Oregon, in 1983, and
lived there until age nine. I spent the rest of
my childhood in Atlanta, Georgia, amidst fond
memories of discussing social issues at the dinner
table. As Northwest natives in the Deep South,
the social contrasts were startling. This fish-out-of
water experience sparked my interest in exploring
human nature.
I enrolled in New York University in 2001, studying
urban sociology. I loved the city. I greatly enjoyed
being immersed in its vibrant concentration of
humanity. While I felt a compelling connection
to the city, the lens of sociology was discouraging.
I wanted to appreciate and understand human nature,
not to discover a remedy for its inevitable deviance.
In the fall of 2002, I transferred to the University
of Washington and began to study studio art in
the Printmaking
Program. Printmaking became an ideal forum
in which to explore my ideas about human nature.
During my time at Washington, I studied abroad
in Cuba and in Italy, which fueled my conceptual
development and was crucial to my undergraduate
experience.
I graduated from the University of Washington
in June 2005, with a BFA in Printmaking. Currently,
I live in Seattle, Washington.
